The most controversial cricket match that Uckfield has ever seen!

By June 30, 2017 No Comments

On the beautiful summer evening that was Wednesday 14th June, the Uckfield branch and 25 of their customers took part in what would be described as the most controversial cricket game in the history of the sport!
Andy Grice and Jon Yates were took on the role of captains and they chose their teams in a child’s playground fashion with everyone stood in a line and even included “ip dip do”.
With the teams picked, Jon’s openers took to the field to bat. Through many superb hits and some very skilled communications, they managed an impressive 144 runs before being ousted by the opposition’s skillful play.
Next up was Andy’s team to bat. With some very impressive play and controversial decisions by Andy’s extra player (the umpire) the score became extremely close with only 4 runs being required from the final over.
Tactically, Will Deverill was picked to bowl as he showed a lot of skill in this area, but with the pressure on, it was clearly too much for him to handle. Will bowled a shockingly wide ball awarding Andy’s team 5 runs and therefore, the match!
Everyone had a great night, enjoying the cricket, BBQ and beverages supplied by SPS and a rematch was quickly arranged for later in the summer.
In a special mention, James Fellows (captain of Isfield’s first cricket team) helped make this night happen by letting us use the Isfield Cricket Ground and made this night complete by quickly getting bowled out by our very own Uckfield branch manager, Aaron. Well done Jimmy!
